Frequently Asked Questions

WHY SHOULD I LINE MY PIPES INSTEAD OF REPLACING THEM?

Pipe replacement is a traditional means of repair where a plumber will remove the failing pipe and replace it with a new pipe. This repair method has many disadvantages, which include the creation of a messy construction site, significant time to complete, and the fact that in almost all circumstances costs more than lining. NuFlow’s cured in place pipe (CIPP) lining solutions are non-destructive, eco-friendly, non-invasive, cost- effective and can be installed in a fraction of the time.

WHAT IS NUDRAIN?

NuDrain is a lining technology used to rehabilitate sections of pipework such as drains by pulling in a ‘Cured In Place’ liner. The liner is felt-based and formed over an inflatable bladder which is saturated in epoxy resin, pulled into place inside the existing host pipe and inflated. After the epoxy has cured, the bladder is deflated and removed leaving a new pipe within an old pipe and forming a structural barrier with ring strength.

WHERE CAN NUDRAIN BE USED?

The technology can be applied in any section of drain, sewer, rain water or utility pipework in either a vertical, horizontal or a mix of both orientations. The liners can be installed within any type of host pipe, including metals, plastics, ceramics, and organics.

WHAT SIZE PIPES CAN NUDRAIN BE USED FOR?

NuDrain can be used on pipework with diameters between 1 1/2” to 12” inches or more depending on a variety of factors. Any length of pipe is manageable, but typically lengths of pipe that can be lined at once vary depending on diameter, a length of approx. 150 feet is able to be done at one time for a 4 inch diameter host pipe.

HOW DOES NUDRAIN MANAGE BENDS AND CONNECTIONS OR BRANCHES?

NuDrain is designed with a flexible and contouring rubber bladder in it. Once installed, the bladder within the liner is inflated pushing the epoxy saturated felt around the contours of the host pipe, making a mechanical bond with its host. NuFlow also offers specific liners for Y and T connections.

HOW MUCH ACCESS IS NEEDED TO REHABILITATE A PIPE LINE?

The access points, cleanouts and manholes we utilize are typically already present.

HOW LONG DOES THE LINING PROCESS TAKE?

Typically, the lining process takes between 2 – 8 hours depending on the section of pipe being lined.

HOW LONG DOES THE LINING PROCESS TAKE?

Typically, the lining process takes between 2 – 8 hours depending on the section of pipe being lined.

HOW SOON CAN THE SECTION OF PIPE BE RETURNED TO SERVICE AFTER LINING?

Once the bladder is removed, the cured liner is inspected as part of quality assurance. The section of pipe can be brought back into service within 10 minutes of successfully completing this process.

HOW LONG DOES THE WATER NEED TO BE OFF?

With some drain applications, the pipe systems don’t even need to be turned off. If necessary, the pipe system can be worked on and nonfunctional during the least inconvenient hours for your home, building, or facility.

ARE THERE TEMPERATURE LIMITS FOR WATER IN A PIPE LINED WITH NUDRAIN?

NuDrain can applied with varying resins to mate with the pipe’s discharge temperature and chemicals being transported. Special resins can tolerate temperatures above 212°F.

WHAT IF THE DRAIN PIPE IS CRACKED, BROKEN OR PENETRATED By TREE ROOTS?

NuDrain can compensate for deviation in diameter or alignment of the existing host pipe should it be affected by collapse, degradation or cracking. In the case of protrusion or debris in the pipes, the host pipe needs to be thoroughly cleaned initially and any debris removed before lining can commence.

WHAT QUALITY ASSURANCE PROCEDURES CAN BE USED IN THE NUFLOW PROCESS TO ENSURE A SATISFACTORY RESTORATION?

Through the process, compliance to key steps are recorded, even using a web-based application. On completion, a visual inspection using a camera is undertaken immediately following curing.

HOW LONG DOES PIPE LINING LAST?

The warranty is 10 years, but the anticipated life expectancy is 75 years.

IS PIPE LINING SAFE?

Our epoxy meets or exceeds the physical properties set forth by the American Standard of Testing and Materials (ASTM) as well as other national & international standards for CIPP rehabilitation.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THIS?

NuFlow’s structural liner and unique pull-in-place process was developed in the 1990s and has been used on thousands of skyscrapers, commercial buildings, multi-unit residential complexes, houses, federal structures, churches, schools and other buildings.
